Chelsea FC

Chelsea FC is definitely one of the most popular English teams in recent times and since the acquisition of the club by the Russian billionaire, it has been a steady but positive movement for the London club.

Every season has come with its news and surprises especially from the transfer market to the Chelsea shirts amongst others and the 2015/16 season was not an exception. Virtually every football lover knows that since Abrahamovic took hold of Chelsea FC, the London outfit has always spent heavily during the transfer period. This transfer window allowed them booster their attack with the signing of former Barcelona star, Pedro. Radamel Falcao also moved from the Red devils to spend at least a year at the bridge. Not a particularly eventful transfer window period for the blues as the likes of Stones and Pogba, were not added to the squad for one reason or the other. The biggest transfer news maybe coming from Stamford Bridge was the departure of Peter Cech to their London rivals – Arsenal.

Chelsea football club also had a change come to their shirt as the sponsorship was taken over by Yokohama tires. The design of the shirts, that is, the home and away kits were also changed though the Adidas remained the official kit maker for the London football club. Sales of the kit has also been phenomenon with increased sales expected with the recent display of the latest attacking signing Pedro, after he scored in his debut match for his new employers. It is also expected that shirts sales would improve if the team is able to start winning games especially as the start to the Premier League season for the men from the bridge has not been particularly enviable as the defending champions have only been able to get 4 points from 4 matches with embarrassing loses to Manchester City and the Etihad stadium and even more shameful loss at home to Crystal Palace.

As regards Chelsea games, as mentioned above, the performance has not been particularly impressive and the Special One has not hid his feelings. This is evident in the controversy between Jose Mourinho and the team’s physician that led to the suspension of the physician from the bench after Jose complained about her coming to the pitch to treat Eden Hazard when he sustained an injury. While Jose’s decision has been publicly criticised by many, we only have to admit that even as the Special One, he is only human and such results tend to put an average human under pressure.

Despite the string of bad results, the seats at the bridge have not really felt the pressure with fans still buying Chelsea tickets to enable them have a feel of their favourite team. Chelsea fans have not only made Stamford bridge a place to be, they have also travelled with the team even to away matches to show their support and get behind the team regardless of the somewhat undesired results.

The champions league come with its thrills and frills and Chelsea football club has almost always been in every thick of the action. The 2015/16 season of the UEFA Champions league has Chelsea drawn in Group G alongside some other football heavyweights in Europe. Other teams in the group are Porto, Dynamo Kiev, M. Tel-Aviv. The most notable and probably significant opposition in the group will be former champions and Portuguese big boys, Porto FC. Chelsea FC starts their UEFA Champions league campaign this season playing at home to M. Tel-Aviv. All things being equal, the London team is expected to have an easy ride over their Isreali counterpart. The match is slated to take place on the 16th of September, 2015 and is sure will be a great feeling to have the blues get back to winning ways in Europe.

Chelsea have not be absolutely spared from the wrath of injuries with the latest being the No. 1 goalie, Courtois who has been billed to be out for about 10 to 12 weeks. This is a definite blow to the squad that has conceded too many goals to have their top goalkeeper out for that long. Thankfully, there is a reliable substitute in Begovic who has over time proved to be a top goalkeeper in the English Premier League.

While it can be said that it is still early days in the season, it is always best to start well especially as top teams that contend for title start the season on a good note and end the same way.
